Protein Shakes for Health … Diabetes, Cholesterol, Lactose Intolerance or Osteoporosis
The main reason to add protein to your diet is to improve your health in some way.
But your shake may not be good for you if you have…
High blood pressure, High cholesterol, Diabetes, Lactose Intolerance or Osteoporosis.
The blue links take you directly to the chart
High blood pressure?…. if you have high blood pressure or are on a salt restricted diet, it would be a good idea to check the labels for the sodium content of your protein shake.
High cholesterol? …If you have high cholesterol look for a shake with low cholesterol and avoid those with high cholesterol, or at least check out what kind of cholesterol.
Diabetes? …For Diabetes check the labels for lower sugar and carbs.
Lactose Intolerant? … If the protein is from milk, then the sugar is mostly likely Lactose. Learn how to tell which protein shakes should be avoided.
If you are Lactose intolerant review other types of proteins to decide which would be best for you.

learn how to know which is safe .. see pages about ..
Osteoporosis?…If you are trying to avoid Osteoporosis look for shakes with higher calcium.
Need Potassium?…If you need to add Potassium to your diet, what better way than a protein shake?
You get the idea …
For whatever reason, it is essential to know what you’re getting in your shake.
For more information read my article"Is Your Shake Really Good for You?" it goes into more detail about Protein Powders and their possible effect on Diabetes, Osteoporosis etc.
I checked the labels for each of our protein shakes.
- I highlighted the highs and lows for each ingredient so you could see which proteins might have more of an effect on you.
- Remember the ones that you think would be the best for you before you go to the rest of the site.
- You may have to compromise and pick out several that have moderate amounts, if your are trying to meet multiple needs.
- Just to level the playing ground, these are all for just one scoop of the powder. This way you can set your own serving sizes depending on the results you want!
- But before you start playing with the serving size keep in mind that you can always use less … but using more may cause problems.
- Some will actually plug up your digestive tract if you do not drink enough liquid. So whatever the serving size always drink plenty of liquid, pay special attention to the amount of liquid suggested on the label and make sure you drink it….either in your shake are along with your shake.

Just on FYI … I used this to lower my stress level and blood pressure. After my car accident, my nerves would not settle down and my blood pressure was through the roof. My doctor recommended this and it is magnificent. It uses biofeedback from your fingers to teach you to relax while playing the most beautiful game I’ve ever seen. As I wondered through an exotic village, I performed tasks that taught me to meditate. The game gave me info about my heart beat and respiration until I finally learned to relax and as a result lowered my blood pressure. And it was $80 then. |
