Why do we need Protein?
Proteins make up the largest part of your body weight….
Like muscles, ligaments, tendons, organs, glands, hair and nails.
They are necessary for muscles to grow and repair themselves.
They are even necessary for your brain to think!!!
What happens if you don't get enough complete proteins?
If you do not get enough protein, parts of your body will start to deteriorate. If you miss even 1 essential amino acid, your body can't make all the rest that it needs!! If you continue to miss amino acids for too long your organs will suffer and weaken.
- Your muscles will grow weak.
- Your ligaments and tendons will grow lax causing joint pain, usually in the knees first.
- You won't be able to think as well as you once did.
- You may gain weight or lose weight depending on the organ or gland and how it reacts to a lack of protein.
- Wounds won't heal as fast as they used to.
- You might just run out of energy and feel exhausted all the time.
- You may have faster hair loss and it will break more easily.
- Your nails may develop ridges and have white lines going across them.
Now, its not likely that you'll always miss the same amino acid, neither will you miss one everyday, but people here in the USA are suffering from a lack of protein. Ever hear we are an under nourished nation? Not getting all the essential amino acids is one reason why! And eating junk food just makes it worse!!!
It also doesn't help that as we grow older, the harder it becomes for our bodies to remove the amino acids from the foods we do eat! So what can we do? Eat more meat? Count amino acids?
No, you can just have a protein drink!
What can you do to make sure you get all the proteins you need.. Add a protein shake to your diet! So simple, but most people don't know how important proteins are until they are forced to go to the gym and there they get clued in by a helpful trainer.
One scoop of protein powder in water can give you 24 gms of a complete protein!
24 gms is about the amount of protein in 3 oz of beef.
